Becoming A Successful Doctor

Writing and reading are thought to be the basic form of education.

This started when the

Sumerians first started writing or engraving symbols on clay tablets to the first

spelling books in the 18th century.

Spoken words are the symbols of mental experience, and written words are the symbols

of spoken words according to Aristotle. Throughout the

ancient times reading the Bible is considered as the highest form of education, thus

parents taught their children how to read it and implemented its constant reading.

A single path and process

is followed in our formal education system today. This path has to be followed

religiously from the first step before proceeding to the succeeding levels.

It is divided into three levels: elementary, high school and college in the US.

The federal government through the department of education have

mandated laws conferring colleges and universities to issue diploma to students who

have completed or complied with standards of education and be considered graduates of

a certain field. To become an expert in a certain field, one has to become more

systematic as educational system undergoes a process of evolution.

Indeed having enough money to support education is not enough. Studying to be a doctor for example is not a bed of

roses as it is a long and largely a bumpy journey ahead. What does one need to become a doctor? Are there sacrifices involved?

Of course, the path to be a doctor is extremely difficult. One

has to possess admirable and endearing characters such as being personable: dedicated,

willing to listen, compassionate, non-judgmental, humble as it is considered the

greatest quality needed especially by a student planning to go to a medicine school. Being a doctor entails dealing

with a variety of personalities from all walks of life with varying degree of problems

such as physical, emotional and psychological. A doctor who knows how to listen and respond

appropriately especially during inopportune period of revealing significant issues on

health for example is a tremendous asset that cannot be equaled. Thus, knowing what to do and what to say based on what the

situation calls for is important.

In addition to finishing the three basic levels in education

and medicine school proper, doctors spend their residency training in hospitals that

often require them to work long and irregular hours. The training involved

however does not stop once they become residents to consultants in special fields as

training starts the day they said their oath of service and continues until they

retire. It is said that doctors do

not own their time but patients or hospitals do as people do not choose the time to

get sick and doctors must attend to them even if they are in the middle of their sleep

or meal. Whenever you decide to

be a doctor, you need to understad that this profession entails public service, you

are a servant to the people who are in need of service and service means placing

others needs above personal needs. Thus, it is important that doctors are flexible

in terms of schedule.

The world of doctors

however does not consist of sacrifices alone as it is a door filled largely with great

opportunities, career advancements and rewards both in monetary and intangible

aspect. Doctors sacrifices are heralded by feelings of

contentment and self-satisfaction upon seeing the sick recover and that, to a true

blue servant of medicine, is the best reward.
